| Recently there has been significant work done on the David Welch House, In 2006-2007, a completely new chimney from the old stone work up was replaced. In addition, each fire place was opened up, and 2 new flu's were added making a total of 5. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Over the years, family members have each adopted a room to work on. They have complete control over what is done, and what furnishings go into the room. While it is not mandatory, everyone tries to keep the Colonial-early Victorian flavor of the house alive. Many of the bedrooms had been given names, mostly after colors such as the Pink Room, the Green Room and the Purple Room.

2007 was a busy year at the house! Work continued on the Yellow room, and the Purple room right above it. Both rooms are very near completion and have already had overnight guests. In July, we had a "dumpster day" (week actually) where the family cleaned out decades of accumulated junk. The Carriage House, Whoopie Room, Bedrooms, Kitchen (old and new) were all attacked. In total, a 30 yard dumpster was filled to the top. Other events of 2007 include the downstairs bathroom being remodeled for the first time since the 1950's. A new stand up shower replaced the old bathtub and the toilet was replaced. New walls and a new tile floor were installed. And as if it were never ending...Painting the outside of the house.

May-2008 The house survived another winter with little apperent damage. The plumbing held out and there didn't seem to be too many critters invading. The hopes this year ar to be able to spend more time there enjoying the place. July 12-19th 2008 had the family up again and what a week- The out of control plants/bushes and shrubs were cut back or out altogether (thank you Brent and David) opening up the back of the Carriage House and the back yard. In August - The Hemlock trees and Maples that had grown wild along the Wood Shed were cut down (before they fell down) opening up the whole back yard now. 2009- During the year, the house got used a good bit. Weekend visits, parties and family gatherings all helped the house remain a unique and wonderful meeting place. Fortunately, there were no major or unexpected surprise expenses to speak of.

2010- All and all the year went by peacefully. There were no major events or surprises. Brendan and Shelby made use of the house for a couple of day trips and weekend outings. Shelby photographed a great deal of the property and surrounding woods for her Photograpy class and just for the sake of the beautifyl pictures. Sharon and I moved the pile of wood left from the Hemlocks and Maples to a pile away from the house for use as bonfire wood.
